What is MT post-editing?

Post-editing (PEMT — Post-Editing of Machine Translation) is the professional review of content automatically translated by systems such as DeepL, Google Translate, or custom neural engines.

While machine translation is fast and cost-effective, it frequently produces systematic errors: mistranslated technical terminology, ambiguous phrasing, inconsistent tone, false friends, and literal grammatical calques. Post-editing resolves these issues, elevating the copy to professional quality standards—with significantly faster turnaround times than full human translation.

Two Levels of Post-Editing

Light Post-Editing (Light PE)

Correction of critical errors that impair text comprehension. Recommended for internal-use content, low-visibility technical documentation, or short-lifecycle texts.

Full Post-Editing (Full PE)

In-depth revision covering terminology, style, consistency, accuracy, and fluency. Recommended for published materials, marketing collateral, technical documentation, and high-stakes content demanding top-tier linguistic standards.

When to Choose Post-Editing

  • You already have machine-translated content and want to bring it to a professional standard
  • You handle high volumes under tight deadlines or budget constraints
  • You use proprietary MT systems (DeepL API, Google Cloud Translation, integrated CAT tools) and require human quality control
  • You produce technical documentation, manuals, or guides in multiple languages
  • You manage e-commerce platforms with large volumes of product descriptions

How Our MT Post-Editing Service Works

    The Process in 4 Steps

    1. MT Output Analysis

We evaluate the quality of the raw machine output and determine the required level of intervention, whether Light PE or Full PE.

    2. Reviewer Assignment

The text is assigned to a native-speaking editor with industry-specific expertise, selected based on the target language and content type.

    3. Review & Terminology Control

The editor resolves errors, inconsistencies, industry-specific terminology, and style issues. If available, we apply the client’s terminology glossary.

    4. Final Quality Assurance

We perform a final verification of the revised text and deliver the file in your agreed format, preserving the original document structure.

    Accepted Formats

We manage the main formats used for documents and translation projects, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, HTML, XLIFF, TMX and other CAT formats. Contact us to verify compatibility with your system.
